KEYS TO A THRIVING MARRIAGE – Strengthening Connection

You probably know an important key to having a successful, happy, and lasting marriage is building and maintaining a healthy marriage. But where do you start?

In our last blog post we introduced 7 keys to a healthy, successful, and strong marriage (Find Keys Here).

Today, we’ll look at the first key:

Strengthening Connection

If a relationship is to thrive and keep growing, we must nurture it, One way to do that is to have regular time together. Do you remember the first time you met? What did you do, how did you feel? Having regular date times is so important to keep the connection strong. To focus on each other and have fun together.

Do you remember the ABBA song “knowing me, knowing you, aha…”. in a marriage this is an ongoing process, the seasons change, we may even face some difficulties. So, to continue to strengthen the connection with each other its so important to listen to each other, share our thoughts and be willing to make changes if that’s what’s needed.

One way of doing this is going on date nights. Because couples need alone time. Time to be husband and wife – not mom or dad, dentist, HR director, PTA member, or fire chief.

Here are 3 ideas to get you started:

  1. Movie night.
Surprise your husband or wife with some sparkling wine, popcorn, and a movie. Or blow up an air mattress in your living room, or cuddle on the couch as you watch a movie you both enjoy. If you like different types of films, you could always alternate each time, so you both get to watch the movie you enjoy most. And since you can’t really talk while watching the movie, make sure you allow time to catch up as well, maybe grab a meal before the movie or coffee after.
  1. Re-create your first date (or really any special date) together.
What were you wearing? Where did you go? What did you do or talk about?
  1. Get fit.
Do a workout at the gym together or walk around the neighbourhood. Then enjoy a protein shake or fruit smoothie afterwards!
