KEYS TO A THRIVING MARRIAGE – Resolving Conflict

You probably know an important key to having a successful, happy, and lasting marriage is building and maintaining a healthy marriage. But where do you start? Some keys to a thriving marriage is Resolving Conflict, or at least one of them.

In our previous blogs we looked at the first 2 keys to a thriving marriage; strengthening our connection and learning to communicate and listen better.

In this blog we’ll look at the third one:

Resolving Conflict

Why is some conflict inevitable in every marriage?

For one, we are different, we come from different backgrounds, have different priorities, desires, personalities, and opinions. We often also forget to show our partner appreciation, and that can lead to feeling unappreciated, maybe even unloved, and not respected.

When last did you stop and think about all the things you appreciate about your spouse? It’s easy to focus on the things we don’t like, but there are usually more things that we do like about our partner than what we don’t when we take some time to think about it.

And even when it’s difficult to find something because things are a little difficult right now, start with catching your partner doing something nice or special and tell him/her how much you appreciate it (even if he/she did it for another person). The atmosphere in your home will change, why not give it a try?

Another area for conflict is around expectations, especially when it comes to household chores, intimacy, and time.

In the Marriage course we look at these areas of Keys to a thriving marriage is Resolving Conflict, and share come very practical tips to de-escalate conflict.
